This message is a follow on from the one already printed. i just had to say that one of my special favourite films, well there films are all special.this particular film is when Stan & Olly are in a hotel its freezing cold outside, snow everywhere, the landlord of the hotel a very rugged chap with a face like a pit bull terrier, anyway Stan & Olly smuggled a dog into the hotel dogs name (laughing Gravy)the landlord had already been up to Stan & Ollys room because he heard a dog barking and stuff,he could not find any dog in the room so he warned Stan & Olly regarding having a dog in the room and if he found out they had a dog in the room he would boot them out into the cold,to cut this message short Stan & Olly decided to give laughing gravy a bath,so they get this tin bath put water into it and soap and made the bath foamy, the landlord got wind of what was going on in Stan & Ollys room, landlord burst into the room and as he did Olly got Stan by the scruff of his neck and ducked him into the bath of water and started to scrub Stan looking at the landlord whilst he was scrubbing Stan,i am laughing my socks of now at that scene, the split second timing of this scene, landlord rushing in Olly duckimg Stan in the bath of water,it just does not get any better than this, unique brilliance, and lets not forget those who were behind the making, producing, directing,Stan & Ollys films, they are all heroes.

I am in possession of a 16mm silent Laurel and Hardy Film. It is an original print from the estate of Gloria Swanson. Just wondering whether this silent film has any value?

The funniest L&H moment for me was in saps at sea, Oliver says 'Dopey, you amaze me' Stan replies 'thank you dizzy'absolute classic, that film has to be one of my favourites, never stop laughing at Stan and Oliies films

as a young boy my time was spent watching the best films ever and they made me laugh so much.
in time when i grew up i was lucky enough to stay at the lake district cumbria in england and visited stans house where he was born. i had a photo taken outside with the plaque on the wall and it still makes me laugh and smile when i see it.
just one question is he Clint Eastwoods dad?

I keep meaning to research my family tree. My family are from the north east of England and a lot from around North Shields. I know I'm related to Max Wall, the late British Music Hall star and actor, he of the funny walks and that's great. So now I would love to find out if Stan is lurking somewhere in my family tree. I know there are other Music Hall connections but I'm the only one left so no hope of gleaning any info from any kin. Will have to get my act together and start searching.

Have just watched some L&H stuff with my 5 year old son who is loving the wonderful madness of it all. Hopefully now he's been introduced he'll get as much magic out of the boys antics as we all have over the years. He's lucky isn't he, he's got a whole lifetime to watch Stan and Ollie.....Bliss!

I live in England UK and would love to purchase Laurel and Hardy films on DVD.(region 2 or universal format). Can anyone tell me where I can obtain good quality DVDs of this duo in their silent films as well as their sound ones. Shorts and features.
Thank you.

Malcolm (United Kingdom)

Could anyone please tell me the best possible biog on these two great artists?

Dave (London/England)

Easily done: it would be John McCabe's authorized biography called MR. LAUREL & MR. HARDY.
I can still recall the first time I read it -- decades ago!

Richard

My favorite Laurel & Hardy bits was when they are standing in the street and one kicks the other in the shin and when the other retaliates and tries to pull the other's pants down another man happens by and his pants are pulled down. Before you know it there is a chain reaction and the street is full of men kicking each other in the shin and pulling pants down. Hilarious. Does anyone know where this is from? I think it was a silent. Thanks in advance.

In response to enquiry about film where trousers are being ripped off at an alarming rate...
The film is called 'You're darn' tootin' made in 1928 or 9. (silent film).

Malcolm (United Kingdom)

Malcolm, Thanks so much.

I would like to say, I have been a fan of laurel and hardy all my life! I can remember watching them since I was 3 or 4 year's old. Their spooktacular tape with "The murder mystery" would have to be amoung my favorite's when my children were little we would watch that instead of scary video's on halloween, they would laugh so hard! Year's later we still get together and watch them.I once was a part of the intra-tent "county hospital", could someone please tell me if you have any info, on joining again? thank's..

I'm 57 years old, and I've been watching L&H every chance I get for the past half century. I've also been a member of the Sons since 1984. There will never be another Laurel and Hardy. They are comedy immortals, along with Chaplin, Keaton, and Fields. What made them so great is a mystery, but the closest I can get is that they were meant to be together. The ingredient that made them who they were was love, for each other, the audience, and Comedy. They were the incarnation of the spirit of laughter!

Does anyone know whether Gilligan & Skipper (from Gilligan's Island) were based on Laurel & Hardy? I watched that as a little girl and they remind me of them. Skipper and Hardy always thought they were the "brains" of the duo.

Well...tonight I am going to watch the movie (Utopia) where they inherit an island and a yacht from their rich uncle. I can tell it's going to be really funny. A fun Friday night! :)

I am 54 years old and have been a fan for as long as I can remember. My dad got me hooked on the comedy duo when I was very young. Over the years, I have collected several of their feature length films on VHS tape. I hope to replace them with DVD versions in the future. I think if I had to choose my favorite short, it would have to be Two Tars. My favorite feature length film would have to be a toss up between Swiss Miss and Saps at Sea.

I am 39 years old. I don't have cable and with bunny ears on my TV I only get one channel. So...I have been entertaining myself with DVD's. I found some old Laurel & Hardy movies my mom bought for my dad (before he died). I grew up with Friends and other X Generation entertainment. This is really funny stuff. I feel sorry for kids today; the humor is predictable and offensive.

I popped one of the DVD's in the other day and it is hysterical. I think it's the Flying Circus? Not sure of the title, but Hardy is going to kill himself because a girl refused to marry him and he was going to drown Laurel too (so they could go together). The banter was a riot. Then they changed their mind and Laurel said "well we won't need this weeight anymore." He throws in the weight (attached to the rope, attached to Hardy) and he falls in the lake with a shark. I was laughing as I got ready for work this morning just thinking about it.

LAUREL AND HARDY,WERE COMEDY GENIUSES. I ENJOYED WATCHING THEM. MY FAVORITE WAS WHEN THEY WERE PIANO MOVERS, MOVING THE PIANO UP THAT LARGE FLIGHT OF STAIRS. AND THE TIMES THEY WOULD GET IN TROUBLE,WITH THEIR WIVES. AND OF COURSE BABES IN TOYLAND. I GUESS THAT LARGE FLIGHT OF STAIRS,STILL EXISTS. THATS WHAT I HEARD ANYWAY. YOU GOT THE FEELING THEY WERE REALLY FRIENDS,WHO HUNG OUT TOGETHER. STANLEY, ALWAYS CRYING, AND OLLIE GIVING HIM THAT DISGUSTED LOOK. AND OF COURSE THIS IS ANOTHER FINE MESS,YOUVE GOTTEN US INTO. IT WAS ALWAYS FUN, SEEING WHAT THEY WOULD DO NEXT. WISH THEY WERE ON TV,MORE OFTEN. THEY WERE GREAT. ALWAYS GETTING INTO TROUBLE TOGETHER. WISH THEY WOULD MAKE A NEW MOVIE OF THEM, LIKE THE NEW THREE STOOGES MOVIE, THATS IN THE WORKS.

Hello there fellow Stan and Ollie fans!

I'm like the rest of you and have worshipped the ground that Laurel and Hardy float above since I popped out of the womb. My tickle bone has been fed all of my life on a constant diet of L&H comedy..... and I've loved every minute of it.

I lived for quite a few years in North Shields just a few hundred metres from Stan's statue and was for many years a good Stan impersonator. Now my face is more Anthony 'Hannibal Lechter' Hopkins rather than Stan (It looks like it's been hewn out of marshmallow). I still try out the mannerisms and voice and my 5 year old son finds it funny even if no one else does.

Fave L&H films? Too difficult to answer..... if pushed I'd go for Tit For Tat and The Music Box..... but these choices change every few days. My son is already showing signs of developing into a fan too.

Take care of yourselves.....and hope to be back on here again soon.
